[Sleepless in Los Angeles]
Ive got the worst bout of mini insomnia right now. I know its not real insomnia because I know that to have real insomnia you like cant sleep for days and you dont get sleepy at all. For some reason since my vacation started and up until now (four days post vacation) Ive been having difficulty falling asleep. I used to get like this during winter break, because CSUN has a long ass winter break. Long enough for you to think it was a quarter (actually I think its almost the length of a quarter). Anyhow during winter break I would just like hibernate in reverse lol well I guess thats not what you would call it, but I would sleep really late and wake up really late. Everything was shifted because I finally had freedom from the fall semester (and fall semesters are usually hard no?) Anyhow I felt the same way last year, during winter break. Sometime around December I was staying up later and waking up later. The hard thing about this schedule is not the fact that I have to wake up early, but the fact that I dont have to wake up early. You see, the triad is very lenient about our time schedule. My boss and supervisor have horrible commutes that even if they wanted to they really wouldnt try to make it in by nine because theyd have to leave their home locations by at least seven. Since neither one of them wants to do that, they implement a as long as you do eight hours rule. Its been the rule Ive been abiding by since Ive started, and dammit I effin live four miles away from work, so youd think that my ass would put two and two together and realize that if you live closer, you dont have to wake up as early, and you can get in earlier and get out earlier. Normal common sense that would make the day fo by quicker and have my day not wasted. Alas I apparently lack that common sense. I decided that since I live so close, I can stroll in at 11AM and just waltz out late because its not a far drive home. Anyhow the last three days have been horrible; I thought since my winter break sleeping schedule didnt kick in around December, I had gotten used to my regular working schedule (the same thing happens around the first part of June too because of summer vacation) but no I freakin got home from work last night around 10PM (we were mulling around Irvine for our function next week) and well Ive been up ever since. The reason why I know I dont have insomnia is because in order to have insomnia, you have to not be able to sleep at all. I think its like less then three hours of sleep. I still get my eight hours, but again its shifted. If I try to go to sleep right now I hope I can make it to the office at least by 11AM, but sleep seems to be a lost cause right now. A yawn! A good sign! I wish work would just say get to work by 10AM if there was a restriction on me Id be able to do it, but if you leave it up to me of course Ill come in whenever I want. When we have to leave work early for a function Im usually up and ready to go when needed. On the weekends when I went out Saturday night and only got four hours of sleep for Sunday morning work that starts at 8AM I still make it its tough and I take a long nap when I get home but I still make it. Anyhow 13 minutes to 3:30AM my butt better get to bed. If anyone has any remedies for this Im open to any suggestions =)
